He has performed live with local Philly artists including The Show Stoppers (Ain't Nothin' but a House Party), The Carl Holms Investigation, Johnny Alton, The Gentle Persuasion and Archie Bell (Tighten Up & Strategy). While touring with The Gentle Persuasion, they opened for Kool & the Gang and BB King in the early 70's. As a young man living in South Philly, Philly Joe studied guitar with such greats as Pat Martino, Dennis Sandoli and Joe Federico also studied west coast funk with Jeff Tamelier of "Tower of Power". He is influenced by Jazz/Fusion, R&B and of course Funk & lots of Soul! Philly Joe was a founding member and co-leader of Aftershock. He was instrumental in Aftershock's growth and power of it's sound. His belief in letting the musician express their own flavor and then bring it together as a group lead to Aftershock's incredible sound. Joe & Joy (J. Stewart) had to move back to New Jersey due to the economic downturn. They are also raising their 2 Grandsons Isaac and Jonathan.
